About Kara
Born and raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Kara has always longed to perform. She credits her Grandma for opening her up to the world of musicals, movies, and dance: The Wizard of Oz, Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Secret Garden, The Sound of Music, the Shirley Temple collection, and many more. The weekend’s spent at Grandma’s were her, her little sister, and Grandma playing pretend, whether that be playing “schoolteacher”, making up their own languages when they were in public, or having dinner parties where they would pretend to be very rich ladies- meanwhile, they were only eating pizza and wings on paper plates. An imagination running rampant was always encouraged, and playtime and dreaming never had to end; in fact, it still never has.
Throughout her time at the University of the Arts and attaining a BFA in Musical Theatre, Kara has put her dreams into a reality by incorporating this sense of play and dream-chasing into everything she does, especially through the telling and retelling of stories that she believes in. She only hopes she can spread at least an inch of the magic and happiness that she experienced watching with her Grandma. As Dorothy in “Over the Rainbow” sings:
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why, can’t I?
